Four-legged family members are more than welcome in this English-style upstate retreat designed by Alison Newman and featured in the November 2023 issue of House Beautiful. Keeping her clients’ love for animals in mind, Newman took her cues from the surrounding hills and pastures: “We wanted to mimic the outside in everything we could.”

For wallpaper, the guest bedroom features Lewis and Wood’s Fleurie — a honeysuckle-butterfly pattern based on an eighteenth century cotton dress print found in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Later in the kitchen, Alison used Jane Shelton Fabric’s Rose Medallions in gold to cushion the back of the dining bench.
