Mia Reay
Einu
Mia Reay’s brand-new Ainu is inspired by the ancient embroidered designs of the Ainu people of Japan’s northern islands. Often found on Japanese garments called “attush,” these designs featured soft, flowing curvilinear patterns. Imbued with the souls of their creators, they were believed to have souls themselves, with the power to ward off evil spirits.
With creativity and masterful attention to detail, Mia has reimagined these designs into a striking, hand-painted wallpaper. “I wanted to bring these beautiful ancient forms and patterns into my work without losing the charm and playfulness of the original designs,” she says. “I feel that the character of the original textiles sits well with our signature style of individual brushstrokes and creating an unique ‘no-computers involved’ artisan hand-painted panel templates.”
The Ainu range comes in two colourways: Elm White and Wisteria Blue. Both options come in roll widths of 52cm (20.47") and roll lengths of 10.05m (395.7").
