As featured in Veranda, this Upper East Side, pre-war apartment by designer Lizzie Bailey of Story Street Studio is the epitome of old New York. “Lucinda and I already had an endless, years-long text chain with images of things that we both loved,” says Bailey of the home’s owner Lucinda May, previously of Peter Pennoyer Architects. Working with partner Laura Stanley, Bailey says she aimed to “establish an overarching perspective” to May's home while using bold color and unexpected art to “inject a youthful edge into the somewhat formal spaces.”
The dining room features Décors Barbares’ Casse Noisette, an ode to Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. It is printed on 100% cotton and available in blue, pink, and green.
On the headboard, the guest bedroom features Whippets, Virginia White’s cheeky dog print. Whippets was designed by London-based artist Rose de Borman as a tribute to Virginia’s whippet, Moss. Rose travels all over the world to collect antique fabrics and is renowned for her loose painterly style. She stylised the design to make it reminiscent of a 1930s engraving. The scale makes this design easy to use for smaller furnishing items too and is available in a wide range of colour-ways over four screens.
