Behind the name

Launched in 2015, Botanica Trading offers a stunning range of textiles designed by founder Debby Tenquist, reflecting her love of the natural world, botanical art, and all things from the Near, Middle, and Far East. Drawn from flora and fauna, Debby’s designs are a celebration and extension of her love for the beauty found in the natural world. The principles of good design, proportion, the language of color have all informed her aesthetic while her love of research and exotic destinations continually molds her creative design process.

Debby began her career in London at the Victoria & Albert and the British Museum, where she studied garden design, architecture, and decorative arts from the fifteenth century to modern-day Europe, the Middle East, and America as well as Japanese and Korean design. After working for Sotheby’s in South Africa and Australia and studying textile design at the University of London, she launched her first comprehensive range of textiles, “Incredible India,” in August 2018, followed by her “Tribal Range” collection in November 2019.
