Across the pond, Lewis & Wood founder Stephen Lewis and Creative Director Magdalen Jebb began searching for inspiration in the archives of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. There, they found remnants of a charming, Washington-themed toile in the museum’s Morton Sundour collection.

From there, they enlisted the help of Andrew Davidson, one of the finest wood engravers in England - beloved for his covers of the Harry Potter series and Royal Stamp Collection – to construct a reinterpreted design featuring new landmarks, all of which ride the hills of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains.

After months of collaboration, The Washington Toile was born. As the centerpiece of the 2026 Washington Winter Show, it represents a love letter to Washington as well as a rich symbol of enduring friendship between the United States and the United Kingdom.

In partnership with the Washington Winter Show, Lewis & Wood is proud to present The Washington Toile as both a wallpaper and a fabric, now available for purchase to the trade through Evans & Sheldon.

The pattern comes in six historically inspired colorways: Blue Ridge, Cherry Blossom, Library, Lincoln Green, Potomac, and Vintage.

To commemorate our nation's 250th birthday, we are also proud to present our limited-edition Washington Toile napkins and tablecloths, a portion of whose proceeds will be donated to the Washington Winter Show. For more information, please visit our Shop page here.
